ISTD

"Music Off The Line" is my creative response to the ISTD brief, "The Line." Inspired by traditional Irish music and graphic notation, it explores the intersection of oral learning and visual representation. Graphic notation, which uses symbols, shapes and images instead of traditional staves and notation, offers new ways to express and interpret music. Semi-ornate Gaelic typefaces highlight the ornamented nature of Irish trad music. I graphically notated how I visualise the instruments in "Danny Boy" and "Tell Me Ma" through glyphs of Times New Roman typeface.

The final outcome includes two A4 pocket folders containing loose A4 notation sheets printed on tracing paper, an A5 history and guide with video animations. This project bridges tradition and contemporary practice, supporting beginners in personalising their musical interpretations.
